How to make a custom ringtone for Samsung Galaxy

Cut a song or recording into an MP3 and add it through Samsung Galaxy ringtone settings, with tips for keeping your selected opening.

Before you start: Have your source audio saved on your device. The editor prepares the clip; follow the setup steps to use it for incoming calls.

Cut the section before adding it

For a ringtone that begins exactly where you want, make a short edit first. Open the MP3 to Ringtone Maker, choose a local song or recording and select the part you want to hear.

A useful first edit is a complete phrase lasting about 20 seconds. Preview from the start, remove extra silence and stop at a natural break. A short fade can soften a harsh ending. Download MP3 and play the saved version once before opening Settings.

Give the edited file a different name from the full song. This helps you avoid selecting the original by mistake when both are on the phone.

Add the MP3 in Galaxy settings

  1. Open Settings, then Sounds and vibration, then Ringtone. Choose a SIM if your phone asks.
  2. Tap the plus sign to add a saved audio file. Grant file access if requested.
  3. Select your edited MP3. Turn off Play selected highlights only if you want the clip to play from its own beginning.
  4. Tap Done to save the choice.

Samsung's ringtone guide documents the custom-file picker and highlights option. Available controls can vary by model, carrier and software version.

Keep the opening you edited

If the phone seems to skip the start, return to the picker and check the highlights setting. Also play the MP3 directly: the opening may already have been cut incorrectly in the editor. Comparing the saved file with the phone preview tells you where to make the next change.

If the file is absent from the picker, first confirm it is downloaded on the phone. Samsung requires a local audio file for this workflow; streaming services do not supply a ringtone just because a song appears in their app.

Try it during an incoming call

Make a test call after saving the tone. Listen at the ring volume you normally use and check the opening is recognizable through the phone speaker. A quieter melody may be more comfortable at a desk; a clearer opening may work better when the phone is in a bag.

Keep one or two versions rather than repeatedly overwriting the same file. If you prefer a spoken phrase instead of music, follow our voice-recording ringtone guide and return to these settings to assign the MP3.
